Thank you for visiting my new blog. It is my hope that by reading this blog, you will be inspired to find new ways to save money and live more frugally. Perhaps you will also find new recipes to try and meet new people.

Let’s start with the basics. A budget. I know that some people think budget is a bad word, but if used correctly, a budget can make your life much easier and give you freedom in your spending. My husband and I rather loosely kept a budget for several years. We came up with several categories, allotted a certain amount of money to each category and tried to stick to those amounts. If we went over one month, no big deal, we would just try harder the next month.

About a year ago, we discovered a very simple budget planner at Dave Ramsey’s website called Gazelle Budget Lite. You simply enter in your income, and the budget automatically determines how much you should be spending in each area on the budget. It’s a zero-based budget, so all of your money will be accounted for. This is something that we do occasionally update and print out again and again.

Dave suggests that each category be a certain percentage of your income. Obviously, everyone is different and one size does not fit all when it comes to budgeting. We spent time tweaking our budget to fit our needs and lifestyle.

If you do not have a budget, I suggest you try this out. Let me know what you think.
