Make Your Own Cards – Part 1

Making cards is something I enjoy doing. It allows me to express my creativity, as well as save money. If I had to buy cards every time I wanted to send one, I probably would not send many. You only need a few things to make your own cards:

cardstock
computer and printer
rubber stamps and ink
markers
ribbon
stickers
scrapbook paper
embellishments
scissors
adhesive squares

Not all of these items are necessary. It depends how much you want to spend on card making supplies. If you are a scrapbooker, you will probably have many of these items.

To make a card, I take a sheet of 8.5″x11″ cardstock. I cut it in half, giving me two sheets 8.5″x5.5″ for two cards. Each of these I then fold in half. Obviously if you prefer a larger card or a square card, you can cut your paper appropriately.

The rocket card above, is printed from clip art I found from Microsoft Clip-Art. I printed the clip-art with the birthday greeting on white cardstock and mounted it on a dark blue piece of cardstock.

Being the frugal person that I am, I keep scrap paper and organize them by color in some filing folders. Small pieces of paper are very useful in card making.

Below are some cards I made with some of my rubber stamps and stickers.

There are tons of scrapbooking websites, which have many ideas for both scrapbooking and card making. Here are a few I have found:

Do you make your own cards? What tips do you have on card making?

Next week I will share some more card making ideas.
