Tuesday’s Tip Jar – Sore Throat Gargle

I found out a few months ago that I have chronic tonsillitis. This is something I can try to live with or I can have my tonsils removed. Because I don’t really want to have surgery, and usually my throat does not feel sore, I am trying to live with it. When I went to a ear, nose, and throat specialist, he recommended I use a salt water gargle when my throat is sore. Here is the recipe he gave me:

1 quart warm water
4 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda

Mix together and gargle.

Most likely you will not be gargling a quart of water at a time – you could try making half the recipe or make the entire amount and heat it up in a mug in the microwave when needed. This works best when it is warm.

This mixture helped to sooth my throat. Try it the next time your throat is sore.

My Husband also suffers from this and has opted not to have them removed. He gargles a lot, but I don’t think he has ever added in the baking soda – I will pass this on to him, thanks!

Whenever my throat starts to feel like it might be getting raw I always gargle hot water and salt. I will try the baking soda too. Thanks!
