Tuesday’s Tip Jar – Cheap Books

I love to read and buy books. But I rarely buy a book for full price. My favorite places to purchase books are used book sales and garage sales.

The city’s library in our county has two huge book sales each year – spring and fall. (There are other library sales, but they are on a much smaller scale.) The spring sale is the largest, with over 200,000 books, cds, dvds, and records and the fall sale is smaller with only 150,000 items. It’s held at a roller skating rink and from what I understand, they are looking for a larger venue. Anyway… most of the books are cheap – $1 for hardbacks and $.50 for paperbacks. The rest are “gift” books that are usually $3 or less.

This week was the fall sale and I went 2 hours after it began. Although I did not find any books on my list, I did find:

Mattimeo by Brian Jacques
Becoming Jane Austen by Jon Spence
Magic for Marigold by LM Montgomery
A Long Fatal Love Chase by Louisa May Alcott
Extending the Table…A World Community Cookbook
Feasting Naturally (I have 2 other cookbooks in this series – they are old – from the 80s, but they have a lot of good, healthy recipes)

The latter two books were $1.50 each, but still well worth the money. And out of curiosity, I checked the price of Extending the Table at Amazon and it’s $14.88. Even though my copy is used, I still got it for a great price.

I love the library book sale – especially for the kids! I got some great finds at the summer sale for only $1 a piece!

    Great tip!
