Saving Money When Hosting

Everyone knows that food prices are increasing. But don’t let that stop you from being hospitable and inviting friends and family over for dinner. Here are a few ideas you can use to make your dinner party or evening with friends more economical.

1. Have a potluck. If everyone brings part of the meal, it cuts down on the money you will be spending, as well as the time for you to prepare the meal.

2. Appetizer or dessert only. By skipping a meal, but still having a variety of food, you can save money and still have an enjoyable time together. Who wouldn’t want to go to a dessert party?

3. Prepare in advance. Normally when you invite friends or family over for a meal, there is a lot to do to prepare for the entire meal. By planning ahead and preparing parts of the meal in advance, you will have more time on the day of your meal. Careful planning also helps you not forget things. Or if an ingredient was forgotten, you will still have time to get it, without rushing around right before guests arrive.

4. Make from scratch. Instead of ordering pizza, you could try making your own pizza. Some suggestions: pita bread pizza, english muffin pizza, or french bread pizza. For a more casual party, allow your guests to assemble their own pizzas.

What things do you do to save money when you host?
