Hermie: Who Is In Charge Anyway? A Lesson in Growing Up With God by Max Lucado is a brand new 30 minute film from Tommy Nelson, a division of Thomas Nelson Publishers. This family friendly movie, targeting preschoolers, follows Freddie the flea as he discovers that God cares all about every one of his friends, and finally himself. Short flashbacks show how his friends have learned that God made them special and cares about them. By the end of the movie, Freddie has learned that God has a plan for him too.
My sons, ages 4 and 5 enjoyed this film about Hermie and his friends. It’s short, entertaining, and teaches them biblical principles.
This was my first “Hermie” video and I thought it was good, although the quality could have been better. I am comparing the quality to recently released VeggieTales movies, which is extremely good. There were a lot of flashbacks, and I thought that may be confusing to a young child. The theme of who am I in God was definitely clear, and repeated many times, which I believe is effective and necessary with children as they learn. Overall, this is a good video with a solid biblical message and I recommend it to preschool age children.
